Lewes is a rather special unspoilt historic market town.   One of the joys of such a town is finding so many stylish individual shops, cafes and other services to explore.   Spend time at The Needlemakers and you will discover a fascinating collection of really imaginative independent businesses offering a huge range of goods and services clustered within an enticing old set of buildings just off the High Street.

The Needlemakers is full of character and history.   It was built as a Georgian tallow candle-making factory (The Candlemakers is the name of the design studios upstairs),  then became a war-time surgical needle-making workshop.  Now, the 18th century beams and old brickwork still survive and the small shops within have been specially designed to reflect the past by incorporating recycled church pews and old timbers.
